VNVC and Sanofi Unveil Roadmap for “Made in Vietnam” Vaccine Production from 2028

At the Vietnam - France High-Level Conference held in Hanoi on 9 July, Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) and French pharmaceutical group Sanofi officially announced a technology transfer roadmap to produce next-generation vaccines in Vietnam starting in 2028.

The conference was jointly organized by Vietnam's Ministry of Health and the French Embassy.

The event was attended by senior leaders of the Party, the State, the Government, and the National Assembly, representatives of the Ministry of Health, the French Embassy in Vietnam, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, leading scientists, and executives from Sanofi and VNVC.

Among those in attendance were H.E Olivier Brochet, French Ambassador to Vietnam, Dr. Remi Nguyen, Vice President of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam (CCIFV), and numerous representatives from the Vietnamese and French business, healthcare, and scientific communities.

The event highlighted Vietnam's commitment to advancing science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, and strategic industries under the country's national development agenda. It also reflected the growing Vietnam–France Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and ongoing cooperation in healthcare, science, and vaccine development.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh called for a clear implementation roadmap to accelerate vaccine production, while emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships, supportive government policies, technology development, and investment in a highly skilled workforce. She reiterated Vietnam's ambition to become a regional hub for vaccine research, clinical trials, manufacturing, and distribution.

Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan described next-generation vaccines as a strategic national technology, noting that strengthening Vietnam's capabilities in vaccine research, production, and supply is essential for protecting public health, enhancing the resilience of the healthcare system, and supporting long-term economic growth.

During the conference, VNVC and Sanofi announced further progress in their partnership to manufacture Sanofi's advanced vaccines at VNVC's Vaccine and Biologicals Manufacturing Plant. Under the roadmap, the two companies will cooperate to produce several high-demand vaccines for both children and adults, with the first next-generation vaccines expected to be manufactured in Vietnam from 2028.

VNVC also updated delegates on the construction progress of its VND 2.5 trillion (approximately US$100 million) vaccine manufacturing facility in Tay Ninh Province. Designed to meet EU-GMP, WHO-GMP, and U.S. FDA standards, the facility is expected to begin operations by the end of 2027, with commercial production of next-generation vaccines planned for 2029. By prioritizing advanced vaccines, the project aims to improve access to high-quality immunization for Vietnamese citizens while strengthening the country's long-term vaccine self-sufficiency and healthcare resilience.

Dr. Remi Nguyen, Vice President of the CCIFV, said he was delighted to attend the conference and support the continued growth of CCIFV Patron Members VNVC and Sanofi, whose partnership represents another important step in France - Vietnam cooperation.
