Mekong Delta Sustainability Workshop: Accelerating Sustainable Development through Community-Level Innovation

Upcoming Mekong Delta Workshop offers Innovation & Sustainability Solutions

The Mekong Delta of Vietnam is classified as one of the world’s most vulnerable deltas to climate change. Vietnam’s “rice bowl” is at an inflection point since the farmers and their land are affected by rising temperatures, salinity intrusion, land subsidence, upstream hydropower dams, and devastating droughts. The Mekong Delta communities understand that they need to become far more productive, innovative and climate resilient to meet the current challenges.

In response to the Vietnamese Government Resolution 120 on Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Development of the Mekong Delta, Mekong Environment Forum (MEF) and The Water Agency (TWA) are producing an action-driven program that recognizes that the responsibility for the delta’s sustainable future calls for a participatory bottom-up informed response from the local communities in collaboration with provincial governments and solution providers.

To kick-start this climate-smart agriculture-energy-water program, MEF and TWA are organizing a 2-day workshop that brings together the stakeholders, including local and international solution providers/suppliers, provincial authorities, local farmers, academia and investors.The workshop is co-hosted by Can Tho University, Can Tho City Government, CCI France-Vietnam and supported by the Mekong Capital.

The workshop will provide a platform for providers and suppliers of climate-smart solutions to learn about the Mekong Delta and community-level challenges, and meet community representatives and authorities and discuss opportunities for concrete projects.

MEF and TWA aim for the workshop to drive concrete action that should lead to deliverable results in first project(s) to be implemented within 6 months after the workshop.
