French investors find Vietnam awash with opportunities

HCMC – Vietnam is an attractive destination for French investors owing to numerous business opportunities in areas like infrastructure, healthcare, tourism, and advanced technology, French Ambassador to Vietnam Bertrand Lortholary said.

At the France-Vietnam Business Forum 2016 held in HCMC on October 27, the ambassador said Vietnam has achieved stable and high economic growth compared to other countries in the region. In particular, Vietnam is all the more attractive to foreign investors as the nation has signed many free trade agreements.

Besides, the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement would take effect in two years’ time, which will buoy trade relations with the EU thanks to the removal of tariff barriers.

France’s exports to Vietnam rose to 1.4 billion euros last year from 764 million euros in 2014 while France spent 4.1 billion euros on imports from Vietnam last year, up 32.8% year-on-year.

France is the third biggest EU investor in Vietnam with registered capital of US$3.4 billion after the Netherlands and the UK. Nearly 300 French firms are active in Vietnam.
