CSR PORTRAIT N°2: Air France KLM

Nicolas RICARD

Country Manager for Air France KLM

Can you explain your activity in a few words?

I am the Country Manager for Air France KLM in Vietnam and also for Singapore. In terms of Vietnam I am responsible for strengthening the market position for Air France KLM in Vietnam, cooperate with partners and SkyTeam alliance partners, among them Vietnam Airlines.

Have you already implemented a social or environmental project in your company? Or do you have a sustainable development policy?

Air France KLM has been recognized for its sustainability performance and has been ranked in the top of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 15 years in the airline category. As a group, our ambition is to set the standard in terms of sustainability and to maintain our leading position within the air transport industry. By integrating sustainability into our business and operations, we strive to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals that are in our scope of influence. Air France has recently stepped up its commitment even more and we have been setting new objectives for 2030 to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% per passenger/km compared to 2005. KLM launched its Fly Responsibly initiative last year, a commitment to creating a more sustainable future for aviation.

For example, from 1 January 2020, Air France has started to off-set all CO2 emissions for mainland France domestic flights. This means approximately the emissions of 450 flights per day and 57,000 customers are being offset.

What type of advice would you give to other companies in Vietnam to launch such CSR project?

We all play a critical role in making our business more sustainable. In order to implement sustainability in a business it means we need to continually improve to find new ways of working and collaborate closely with stakeholders.
