Competing against two other finalists in the local contest on Monday, the winning team took home VNĐ50 million (US$2,200) in cash and the championship trophy.

The Outliers team includes Nguyễn Hoàng Yến Khanh, Lưu Thai Quang Khải, Trần Võ Thanh Tú, and Rahul Ravindranath.

The runners-up were the Revolution team from Foreign Trade University in Hà Nội and the WonderKids team from RMIT University.

The local competition saw a total of 48 students from 10 Vietnamese universities competing in business strategy-making and presentations to earn a spot to compete in Hong Kong against students from top universities in Asia Pacific.

Teams were given an unpublished business case developed by the University of Hong Kong which needed a solution. They then had to prepare a presentation about their solution within three hours.

The solutions were presented to a panel of judges followed by a 15-minute question and answer session.

The Regional HSBC - HKU Asia Pacific Business Case Competition will be held at the University of Hong Kong with 24 teams from regional universities pitting their wits against each other to land the champion’s prize of US$10,000.

The competition provides students the opportunity to foster analytical thinking, creativity, innovation, and communication and presentation skills, all of which are valuable assets in the workforce.

By creating a platform that encourages employment-focused skills development in the community, HSBC aims to assist the young generation to fulfil their potential.

The HSBC Business Case Competition engaged both HSBC Vietnam staff and corporate clients to share their career experiences, knowledge and skills with students in Việt Nam so that talented and capable students can thrive in the international arena and excel in their future careers.

The competition was developed by the renowned Asia Case Research Centre of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Hong Kong in 2008.

Since that time, the competition has reached 600,000 participating students from 130 universities across the world and 800 business executives across 12 countries volunteering as judges. —VNS
